Session 1
The day will begin with a conversation of students and instructors experience and their expectations of the class. Acquiring and directing both male and female models, model releases and etiquettes to be observed during the class and elsewhere will be outlined. Sample photographs will be examined and the lighting methods used to create them will be discussed. A presentation on the importance and use of make up will be provided. Following the discussion the instructors will light a photography set beginning with the backdrop and followed by demonstrations, samples and a discussion of the silhouette, back, side, double, fill and key lighting. Single and multiple lighting set ups will be demonstrated. The use of props will be minimal. A live model will be used through out the demonstrations. Once the studio lighting demonstrations are complete, the dialog will refocus on the use of available indoor light, including window, lamp and reflected light. A one-hour lunch break will be allowed as well as several rest and coffee breaks as needed.
Session 2
The second day of the workshop will be dedicated to providing the student with the opportunity to construct his/her own studio and available light set. It is anticipated that three live models will be available, two female and one male. The classroom will be divided into two studio configurations and one available light arrangement. The class will be divided into three equally sized groups. Each group will select poses from the sample images provided by the class. Instructors will roam from group to group to advise and critique the students’ work while in progress. A goal of the exercise will be to have each student produce at least one photograph of sufficient quality to include in a portfolio. The class and its products will be critiqued at the end of the day. A lunch and break periods as needed will be accommodated.
